All that matters is if you're enjoying this moment, right now! If you are, keep doing what you're doing! If you're not, here are some ideas to try.
1. Just try!
If you're resisting doing something you want to do, because you're afraid it will suck or be too hard, put forth the SMALLEST amount of effort you can muster towards starting. You'll find that when you do, that the flow tends to take over and pull you through the rest of the project. Want to do pushups on your toes? Just try! Want to write a book? Just try! You can do it!
2. Say you're going to do something, then you'll be more inclined to do it.
Kelly and I have officially started budgeting, and it works! And then we made a weekly meal board where we plan our meals, and it works! When you want something, like to be better with money or to eat better, be a cooperative component. Make a plan of your ideal situation, and then watch as the universe conspires to help you with your goals.
3. Think of every challenge as a guardian angel, trying to tell you something important.
Marc David has an excellent way to look at illness and contrast:
In the traditions of the ancient Greeks and mystery schools from around the globe, every bodily symptom, every challenge we face with health, and any disturbance of the mind was seen as a divine messenger, a whispering from your guardian angel, an announcement from body wisdom that something deeper is calling for our attention. Every ailment holds within it insights that are profoundly important for our growth and evolution. When we begin to hear the deeper messages, the ailment has the best chance to heal. When we ignore its’ teachings, our angel blasts his horn a little louder.
4. Try this mantra: "I believe something great is about to happen to me!"
This one works wonders! Check out Kelly's magickal buy-one-get-one-free pickle story about it.
5. Try this mantra: "I don't have to report to anyone."
You don't have to prove your worth to anyone. Your worth is in that you ARE. You don't have to prove it, it already is! Now tell whoever is on your back to get off, and don't let them climb back on!
6. Feel afraid of the future?
The opposite feeling is excitement. Practice saying "I'm so excited about the future!" and start feeling what it feels like to look forward to the beautiful unfolding of your life.
7. Do you want attention?
If someone isn't giving you attention, remember it's up to other people to get on your level! If you try to go get attention, you'll just take yourself down, because you're sending a signal of doubt instead of certainty. Trust in the flow! Stay on your level and let it come to you. Your level is one of knowing, trust, fun and appreciation. Let the amazing people you are already a match to, come to you!
8. Stand behind yourself 100%.
Never be afraid to express yourself. Don't dim your light because you're afraid of what people think. The world needs your point of view! That's why you're here! If you pretend to be someone else to get people to like you, you'll never be yourself. Your Self is the part that people like. It's the only way to be authentic. People can sense authenticity, and they don't like things that are inauthentic. You can only be likable if you're being yourself. (Which really means, you can only be likable if you like yourself.)
It works, omg silent counting WORKS! Every morning, as soon as I get up, I start counting. I try to get to 1000 before I get out of the shower. I try to get to 5000 before I get to the gym. The purpose is simple: when I'm counting, I'm not thinking. If I'm not thinking, I'm not worrying. If I'm not worrying, I'm not creating what I don't want.
10. Sit in your body like a chair.
I've been trying to figure out how to "feel my inner body" for some time now. It's a concept I read about in The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. If you can feel your inner body, you're connected to source energy and a limitless source of love and good feelings. One way I've found to get in touch with my inner body is to imagine I'm sitting in my body like a chair. I can feel the energy within me expanding to fill my skin. It's a fun meditation technique that feels really good.
11. Get out of your comfort zone!
Pema Chödrön says, "To be fully alive, fully human, and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest." Be ready to fly and you'll never mind getting thrown out!
12. It's always something.
After you resolve one problem, you'll always find another. It's the beauty of life—we have contrast so we can know what we want. This morning, as I moved on from worrying about money to worrying about my cat, I realized that I'm always going to find a new problem to worry about. So instead of perpetually feeling like shit, I just stopped worrying. It's not worth it! The problems never dry up, but you CAN take your focus away from them and enjoy this moment! Here are Tzu quotes to help:
- "Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you." ~ Lao Tzu
- "Perfect happiness is the absence of striving for happiness." ~ Chuang Tzu
13. Be your reason for feeling good!
"Being your reason for feeling good" is just another way to say "self love". Make a list of things you can do to feel good about yourself and then do them, all the time, every day! The more you like what you're doing, the less you'll need things outside of you to make you feel good. You don't need anyone or anything, because you're in love with yourself! You're too cool and fun and exciting to need attention from other people! You don't sit around waiting for invitations, because you're already doing the things you want to be doing! You don't spend all your time thinking about your crush, because you're in love with living your own life!
